Tiles are heavy and fragile. Orders are palletized and shipped via freight to minimize breakage. Each box can weigh 35–50 lbs, and we use shrink wrap and pallets for safety.

Once your order reaches the nearest service center, the freight carrier will contact you to schedule delivery. You must respond within 24 hours to avoid storage fees.

Otto Tiles does not accept returns on full tile orders to maintain quality control. Please order samples first to confirm suitability. If a return is approved by exception, all return shipping and restocking costs are the buyer’s responsibility.

However, they are not suitable for fully submerged applications like inside pools, fountains, or water features. Even when sealed, cement tiles remain porous and can absorb water over time, which may lead tostaining, cracking, or deterioration. For submerged areas, we recommend choosing a non-porous alternative tile type specifically designed for underwater use.

Yes, Otto cement tiles are suitable for fireplace surrounds and hearth walls. Their durability and handmade beauty make them ideal for decorative use around high-heat areas. However, they should not be installed inside the firebox, where direct flame exposure can cause cracking or damage.

Yes. Cement tiles are fully compatible with radiant heating systems. The floor heating should be turned off 12 hours prior to installation, and restarted gradually only after the tiles are fully cured. Leave a 3 mm (1/8") grout gap to allow for thermal expansion.

Yes—sealing is essential. Cement tiles must be sealed before and after grouting to protect against staining and moisture. Otto Tiles recommends Miracle 511 Porous Plus. These sealers are invisible and preserve the tile’s color and finish. Reseal annually in showers and every 2–3 years elsewhere. If water doesn’t bead on the tile surface, it’s time to reseal.

Tiles can stain if not properly sealed before grouting. Always seal first, then grout in small areas (approx. 20–30 sqf), cleaning as you go with a damp sponge and fresh water. Avoid letting grout dry on the tile surface. Grout haze is typically the result of improper sealing or failure to clean promptly. If grout residue sets, use a non-acidic tile cleaner and rinse thoroughly.

Unbox all tiles and lay them out to dry and acclimate. Do not stack tiles face-to-face. Clean any dust or residue before installation. Mix tiles from multiple boxes to evenly distribute tonal variation. We recommend ordering at least 15% overage to account for cuts, breakage, or unexpected issues during installation. Slight surface imperfections are normal and reflect the handmade nature of the product.
