Tiles are heavy and fragile. Orders are palletized and shipped via freight to minimize breakage. Each box can weigh 35–50 lbs, and we use shrink wrap and pallets for safety.

Once your order reaches the nearest service center, the freight carrier will contact you to schedule delivery. You must respond within 24 hours to avoid storage fees.

Otto Tiles does not accept returns on full tile orders to maintain quality control. Please order samples first to confirm suitability. If a return is approved by exception, all return shipping and restocking costs are the buyer’s responsibility.

Yes—with conditions. Glazed Zellige tiles can be used in pools and fountains, provided they are sealed properly and installed with care by a tile professional experienced in submerged applications. Unglazed Zellige tiles are not recommended for fully submerged use due to their porosity, even when sealed. Please consult your architect or contractor for project-specific recommendations.

Yes. Zellige tiles are perfectly safe for use around fireplace surrounds. Their kiln-fired production makes them resistant to heat, and they provide a beautiful, handmade finish in high-temperature areas. However, like all decorative tiles, they should not be used inside the firebox, where direct flame may lead to cracking.

Zellige tiles are surprisingly easy to install.Since they are handmade and naturally irregular in shape, they don’t require strict spacing or perfect alignment, giving you more flexibility during installation and a beautifully organic finish.
Zellige tiles should be installed as closely together as possible, ideally with no visible joint. Lay them edge-to-edge and expect slight variation in height and size. Use tiles from different boxes to balance tone and variation. Due to the irregular shape of Zellige tiles, they are best installed by a professional with experience in hand-cut Moroccan tilework. Never use a rubber mallet to set tiles; it may cause cracks.

Use a mild, pH-neutral cleaner and soft cloth or mop. Avoid bleach, vinegar, or acidic cleaners, especially on unglazed surfaces. For showers, squeegee after each use to prevent limescale buildup. Do not use abrasive pads, floor scrubbers, or rotary machines, which can damage the surface. Reseal unglazed tiles annually in high-traffic or wet areas.

Unglazed Zellige tiles must be sealed both before and after grouting to protect them from staining and moisture absorption. Use a high-quality penetrating sealant such as Miracle 511 Porous Plus. In high-moisture environments like showers, reseal annually.

Glazed Zellige tiles do not require sealing, as the glaze provides a protective barrier.

Zellige tiles are incredibly versatile and suitable for a wide variety of applications, including:

Zellige tiles are also safe to use over underfloor heating, provided proper installation guidelines are followed.

Yes, Zellige tiles are safe for home use. However, because they are made using traditional glazes, some may contain trace amounts of lead. This is not hazardous under normal use. Avoid cutting glazed surfaces with rotary saws or sanders. If cutting is required, do so outdoors or in a well-ventilated area while using appropriate protective gear.

Yes. Zellige tiles are compatible with heated floors. Make sure to turn off the heating system at least 12 hours before installation, and gradually return it to operating temperature once the tile and grout have fully cured.

Use a flexible white paste adhesive or high-bond mortar applied using the double-spread method—on both the tile and the surface. The adhesive should be about 1/8" (3mm) thick to help compensate for tile irregularities.

For grout, use a very runny, liquid grout like Mapei Ultracolor Plus FA. Since Zellige tiles are laid edge-to-edge, grout gaps are minimal, no more than 1/32" (1 mm). Spread grout diagonally and clean with a damp sponge after 20–30 minutes. Always test grout on a small area first, especially with unglazed tiles.
